Add a custom delimiter

  • Updated

Summary

Learn about delimiters, how MindBridge uses them, and how to add a custom delimiter to your engagement.

Overview

Delimiters are characters or symbols used to indicate the end of a field, or to split up the values in a column.

Although MindBridge automatically detects common delimiters, it is only able to detect single-character delimiters, such as:

  • Comma ( , )
  • Slash ( / )
  • Pipe ( | )
  • Semi-colon ( ; )

If your firm uses a unique delimiter (single- or multi-character), you can have MindBridge detect it by adding it as the new default delimiter.

Add a custom delimiter

Add to new library

When creating a new library, enter your desired custom delimiter to the Default delimiter field.

Note: The delimiter entered at the library level can be overridden on the Library details page, and during the Data Validation step of the file import process. However, during file import, any override will only affect the file being imported at that time.

Add to existing library

  1. On the Library details tab, enter your desired custom delimiter to the Default delimiter field.
  2. Save your changes.

Add when importing data

When you import a file, the first step in the import process is Data Validation—this is where MindBridge detects the delimiter used in the file.

Note: If a custom delimiter has not been set, MindBridge will default to displaying the detected delimiter based on the file being imported.

To update the default delimiter:

  1. Find the Delimiter field and select Edit.
  2. Enter your desired custom delimiter.
  3. Save your changes.
Note: If you add a new custom delimiter, MindBridge will automatically revalidate the file being imported upon saving.
