FAQ: What is the difference between adding and replacing a file?

  • Updated

Answer

In MindBridge, you can replace the most recently imported files in the current and prior periods of any analysis as needed, even after the analysis has run, but when using the periodic time frame for a general ledger ("GL") analysis, you can also import subsequent files into the current period over time, such as monthly or quarterly; the outcome of this is a complete dataset that spans the duration of the defined analysis period.

Replace a file

Using the Replace file action deletes a given file from the analysis and inserts a file of your choosing in its place. Note that a copy of the original file will still exist in the File manager.

If you replace a file after an analysis has run, MindBridge will prompt you to run the analysis with the new data.

Add a new file

GL analyses that use the periodic time frame allow you to import files on an ongoing basis.

After the first file has been imported, using the Import file action will add the next file to the analysis.

Example

In this example, it is April 2022, and the user is in the process of importing files into a GL analysis that uses the periodic time frame. Based on their firm's methodology, they are importing data on a monthly cadence, and have imported files with the data for January, February, then accidentally imported the data for April instead of March. Realizing the error, they choose to replace the April file with the correct file (March), then subsequently import the April file so it appears in the correct order.
